Petition for a News Quality Rating System

Newsmakers need to tell viewers about the Journalistic Ethics Quality of each news story that is broadcast. The news rating system will tell viewers whether newsmakers followed the highest journalism ethics code while producing news stories. It will also tell viewers when newsmakers haven't followed basic fundamental journalistic ethics guidelines. A news rating system will make the insular editorial process more transparent to viewers for the first time, so consumers can make choices based on ethical journalism standards. We need this now in the same way that we successfully demanded advisory labeling for film, music and TV shows. A news rating system serves the public interest and will discourage unfair, unbalanced, untruthful and biased news reporting.
